The Ragged Writer

I am starting a new career in digital  copywriting, creative writing, blogging, and some light journalism. “How does one do that?” you ask. Well, I have no idea. I really don’t. All I know is that I am 39 years old, and this is the first time that I can honestly answer the question. You know the one, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I know what I want to do, and I even know who I want to do it for, I can even tell you how I got to this point. I just don’t where to go from here.

So. Here we are. My plan, so far, is to just write about it. I am going to chronicle everything I do. Every mistake I make. Every success I have. Every time I fall flat on my face. Which I assume I will do often, metaphorically and literally (my battles with gravity are near legendary in certain circles). And I am going to do this strictly for your benefit. Well, not so strictly because I am trying to run a business after all. Let’s say mostly for your benefit. I will do my best to ensure that every bump in the road, every screw up, and faceplant will be laid out in a map to make navigation easier for anyone who decides they also want to get into copywriting, with a few careers on the side.

The Dream Shared

If Copywriting is my wife, than creative writing is my mistress. I love to write. It’s who I am. It’s what I do, and I know I’m not the only one.

There will be a page here for short stories, poems, or excerpts of longer writings. On this page, I will take contributions. If you have something that you just want to get out there, but don’t have a platform to get your voice heard, then this will be the place. If you just want to see your writing in print than this will be the place. All of your work will be signed by you, unless you prefer to be anonymous, and you will maintain copyrights.

I want this site to be helpful. I want it to be a safe place for all of us to learn and grow. To develop our skills, and refine our talents. It will be a site full of writers, run ragged trying to get words on paper, all the while maintaining our full-time jobs and family lives.

Project Charter

I plan on, or at least hope to be, working with local charities. I know a few board members of a few causes, that I met at church. When I explored the idea of Copywriting, helping them is the first thing I thought of. I’ve seen their websites, and flyers and know that they could use help. If I can make a business centered around helping people, at the same time showing others how to do the same, well, that would be amazing to say the least. As I get things off the ground I will be providing contact information to volunteer with them or, links to donate to them. I realize that only a few of you who land here will be from the area, but if even a fraction of those few help out, it could make a huge difference in someone’s life. As I get bigger I hope to stretch farther and reach out to more places. I will also, or at least plan to at this point, create videos, this is where the “light” journalism comes in, to show you the causes I am interacting with. I believe that all some of these causes need is a larger audience, that if more people knew about them, then more would see their worth and really step up and lend a hand.
